Christy O’Connor and Jeffrey Demos are working as a collaborative team for Dusklit 2017.  O’Connor and Demos have been married for 8 years.  Demos has assisted O’Connor in her creative endeavors over the years, but this is the first time they have worked as a fully collaborative team.

Christy O’Connor is a New Jersey based artist, living in Monmouth County.  She has been working as an artist for about three years.  O’Connor works in a variety of mediums, including, painting, mixed media, and sculpture.

She is an alumnus of the Ramapo College of New Jersey, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts.  She also completed some of her undergraduate studies at New Jersey State University, concentrating in the area of photography.  O’Connor took some time away from her practice upon her completion of school to focus on her career in education.  After ten years in the field, she made the move back into the arts.

O’Connor participated in Dusklit last year, with her work “Under the Big Top”.  O’Connor has been involved in a large variety of group art exhibitions throughout the tri-state area.  O’Connor has worked in collaborative installations, including Automaton, located in Trenton, NJ, Lost Connections, in Red Bank, NJ.  Most recently, O’Connor has begun to curate art pop-up events throughout NJ, with her brand Art Hustle.

Jeffrey Demos holds a background in website design and development and video production.  Demos is an alumnus of the Ramapo College of New Jersey, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication for Television and Video Production.  Demos has worked as a creative assistant over the years with the construction of O’Connor’s sculptures.

“Spinning in Chaos” is based upon a playground round-about or carousel.  Participants are invited to interact with the work by sitting on the small ride to spin on it.  The work itself is a mixed media sculpture made from a combination of wood, paper mache, and more.  The center of the piece starts with an effigy of the 45th President, Donald J. Trump.  The round-about will be separated into 8 equal sections of 45 degree angles.  Each section will be separated by tentacles sprawling out from the effigy.  On the boards of the round-about, each section will have various truths and fears of the chaos this president and his administration brings to citizens in this country and the world.
